Arbor Day will be celebrated by the Osterville Garden Club, (OGC) by planting a weeping cherry tree at the Osterville Historical Society near the historic Cammett House. The Arbor day planting is an annual event held by the OGC to take the opportunity to educate the general public on the important role trees play in sustaining the natural environment. Each year a location visible to the public is chosen by OGC in Osterville or in the surrounding villages. This environmental holiday is observed by the OGC to encourage citizens and groups to plant trees and care for the already existing trees. The Osterville Historical Museum and the OGC have enjoyed a supportive relationship for many years. The OGC developed and maintains the Colonial Garden at the Museum entrance and an authentic colonial Herb garden for the enjoyment and education of the many visitors to the Museum grounds. The beautiful weeping Cherry will be of special interest to the Spring bridal parties that have chosen the Museum as the site for their wedding receptions. Arbor Day was founded by J. Sterling Morton on April 10th, 1872 in Nebraska City, Nebraska, United States where over an estimated one million trees were planted on that single day.
