September 9, 2024: "Design with Nature on Cape Cod and the Islands" Jack Ahern, Professor Emeritus of Landscape Architecture at UMass Amherst and book author, will speak about the necessity of designing and protecting our natural landscapes to promote diversity and sustainability.
October 7, 2024: "Gardens Galore" We will return to the magical gardens of George & Marcia Chapman in East Falmouth where, in 2018, OGC members marveled at the horticultural wonderland of trees, shrubs, perennials, fountains, and fishponds surrounding this conveniently located home right off Route 28. We will hold a brief business meeting there before they give us a personal tour.Meet at Our Lady of Victory to car pool, bring a boxed lunch and a drink, and be prepared to enjoy a true horticultural Cape Cod gem!After the tour, take a trip to Soares Nursery, 1021 East Sandwich Road, East Falmouth for a special discount.
November 12, 2024: "Gardening is Murder" Neal Sanders, a local author, will present a humorous and well-received talk that addresses gardening and club participation from a spouse’s point of view. Neal has written several mysteries about the Garden Club Gang, who are four strong, independent senior women.
December 2, 2024 "Meals On Wheels Mug Workshop" Barnstable Adult Community Center, Rte. 28, Hyannis, MA Join us for the regular meeting and a fun and festive activity, which provides an important opportunity to give back to our senior community! You will need to bring 4 holiday mugs (filled with soaked oasis, some greens, decorations, and ribbons), clippers with your name on them, and decorations.Flowers will be provided. Please be mindful of the decorations you use, as berries and sharp objects will not be acceptable for some of our seniors. If you are unable to come, please drop off your 4 completed mugs at the BACC before the meeting begins. * Please Note this Meeting starts at 10AM**
February 3, 2025: “Invasive Alien Plant Crisis in Massachusetts"Peter Alden, renowned naturalist, lecturer, ecotourism guide, and author of 15 books, including several National Audubon Field Guides, will present an entertaining and informative talk about the latest data on local invasives and how to deal with them.
March 3, 2025 “Planting with Purpose: Shrubs and Trees for Cape Cod Landscapes”Well known Cape Cod horticulturist, CL Fornari, will present a special program, showcasing plants that are attractive, thrive in our coastal environment, yet do not require a lot of care and maintenance. Guests are encouraged and welcome.
April 7, 2025: “A Behind the Scenes Look at Art in Bloom” Susan Dewey will share a brief slide show and stories featuring floral designs from two decades at Boston’s MFA and the Worcester Art Museum.Susan and Design Chair Donna Rumpf will create their own floral interpretations of the same work of art. Don’t miss this fun and entertaining program. May 5, 2025 “A History and a Future for Land Conservation on Cape Cod”. Mark Robinson has been the Executive Director of the Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc. since its inception in 1986, and is the “go-to” person for all open space matters on Cape Cod. His knowledge and optimism are inspiring.
June 3, 2025: “Celebrating Cape Cod Hydrangeas” Heritage Museums and Gardens, Sandwich, MA Come enjoy a delicious catered boxed lunch and cold beverages at Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich, as part of OGC’s annual meeting.We will meet at Our Lady of Victory to carpool to a tour of the Cape Cod Hydrangea Society’s garden and hear from a Hydrangea expert on the best way to plant, fertilize and prune Hydrangeas! The cost is $55 per member, which includes lunch, entry fee, tour, and presentation.
