Civic
Beautification
The Civic Beautification Committee strives to make permanent improvements for public benefit. Our major club project is designing and maintaining the Herb and Colonial Gardens at the Osterville Historical Society. This Committee also plants a tree for Arbor Day. (Projects) (Project 2) (2008)
Conservation
This committee focuses on environmental awareness through meetings, outreach, field trips and workshops Our goal is to educate by encouraging members and the community to create sustainable landscapes and gardens, to use organic materials and native plants, to recycle and to protect our natural resources in order to reduce our impact on the Cape environment.
Design
This committee encourages the interest of all members in floral design, through classes and workshops that are based on good, workable design practices. Club members are encouraged to participate in monthly general meeting design exhibits, and also to enter the design division of the Barnstable County Fair, and other area shows. The design chair is responsible for creating and organizing design workshops, coordinating floral arrangements for the regular Club meeting tea tables and the Annual Luncheon, and encouraging Club members to be active in floral design.
Garden
Therapy
The members of this committee visit and conduct monthly floral arranging
projects for residents at Harbor Point Assisted Living in Centerville.
Horticulture
The purpose of this committee is to promote the education of Club members
to good horticulture practices and standards of the National Garden
Clubs, Inc. and to encourage member participation in the Barnstable
County Fair. The committee maintains the Butterfly Garden at Audubon Long Pasture Sanctuary in Cummaquid. (Project 3) (Butterfly2008)
Library
The Library Committee organizes member participation in placing flowers weekly throughout the year in Osterville, Centerville, Cotuit, and Marstons Mills Libraries. Each Provisional and Active member is expected to provide flowers for one of the libraries at least twice during the year. Associate members are encouraged to provide flowers for a library at least once during the year. In addition, the committee selects books to be placed in libraries in memory of deceased members.
Scholarship
This committee reviews applications and conducts the awarding of annual scholarships to deserving students.
Under The Green Umbrella
This is a new program being introduced this year to broaden our Club's mission by creating and developing environmental awareness in conservation and horticulture practices through an educational program for young people and adults residing in the villages our members represent. The members of the Osterville Garden Club will be involved as leaders and teachers (Scarecrows) (Harvest).
Ways
and Means
The function of this committee is to raise funds for the operational expenses of our garden club. Our fundraising projects for the 2009-2010 year will include a Farmer's Market, a Bulb Sale and the annual spring Plant & Bake Sale in May.
