Club Projects & Committees

Civic Beautification
The Civic Beautification Committee strives to make permanent improvements for public benefit. Our major club project is designing and maintaining the Herb and Colonial Gardens at the Osterville Historical Society. This Committee also plants a tree for Arbor Day. (Projects) (Project 2) (2008)

Conservation
This committee strives to enhance our environmental awareness through field trips, walks and workshops. It continues to focus on the importance of conservation of the Cape's natural resources. This committee established and now maintains the Hummingbird and Butterfly Garden at Audubon Long Pasture Sanctuary in Cummaquid.
(Project 3)

Design
This committee promotes the education of Club members in good design practices through classes and workshops and mentors those who show talent in design. Club members are encouraged to participate in the design division of the Barnstable County Fair, the New England Spring Flower Show and "The Maritime Festival" at the Osterville Library. Within the Club, the chair is responsible for creating and organizing educational workshops, soliciting arrangements for the monthly tea table, providing floral arrangements for the Club's Annual Luncheon and in general, keeping Club members active in design.

Garden Therapy
The members of this committee visit and conduct monthly floral arranging activities for residents at Harbor Point Assisted Living in Centerville.

Horticulture
The purpose of this committee is to promote the education of Club members to good horticulture practices and standards of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and to encourage member participation in the Barnstable County Fair and the New England Spring Flower Show.

Library
The Library Committee organizes member participation in placing flowers weekly throughout the year in Osterville, Centerville, Cotuit, and Marstons Mills Libraries. Each Provisional and Active member is expected to provide flowers for one of the libraries at least twice during the year. Associate members are encouraged to provide flowers for a library at least once during the year. In addition, the committee selects books to be placed in libraries in memory of deceased members.

Scholarship
This committee reviews applications and conducts the awarding of annual scholarships to deserving students.

Ways and Means
The function of this committee is to raise funds for the operational expenses of our garden club. Our fundraising projects for the 2008-2009 year will include a bulb sale and the annual spring Plant & Bake Sale in May.
